There comes a time when you're carpets need to be replaced, but what are the signs that this is the case. Read on to find out.

Persistent stains

If your carpet has stains, the first thing to do is to use a professional carpet cleaner to remove them. Some stains, however, are more persistent than others and they might not leave even after you have cleaned them, such as oil based stains, on carpets made from synthetic materials. Having them cleaned professionally will often remove them, but in some cases the stans become permanent and nothing more can be done. Therefore, severe stains are usually a good reason to replace your carpet.

Holes or Signs of Damage

Even though you can be very careful and take good care of your carpet, it can become damaged for a variety of reasons. Very harsh cleaning products can have a negative impact on the state of the carpet. Moreover, having kids or pets at home contributes to its deterioration, since they may not be as careful as adults. Overwetting of the carpet which can be caused by spills, or bad technique when having your carpet cleaned can also damage the carpet, causing your carpet to shrink. In some cases this is reversible, but not always. Therefore, if it shows signs that it is damaged, you need to replace it.

Mold Growing on The Carpet

Mold can be a problem in the home. If you notice that mold is growing on your carpet, you need to contact a specialist to get rid of it. However, mold tends to be very stubborn, and it can grow back even after professionals have removed it. If you see that mold is coming back, you need to find the source of the mold. If the mold has spread throughout your carpet, you may have to replace the carpet as well.

Bad Smells

Whenever there is a bad smell on the carpet, the logical thing to do is to clean it or even try to use some deodorizers to get rid of the smell. If you have already tried this but the smell keeps coming back, there is nothing else that you can do other than to replace the carpet. Removing the source of the smell is the only way to really getting rid of bad smells.

Your Carpet is Old

Even with a good care routine, experts agree that carpet lasts around 15-20 years. After being installed for so long, the padding will have suffered, there are probably some stains that have been there for years, and it might just look bad. Therefore, if your carpet is older than that, you may want to consider replacing it.
